The first ever gas-to-power mining licence to be granted in Botswana has sent TLOU ENERGY (LON:TLOU) shares jumping as the Lesedi coalbed methane project moves from appraisal to development. TLOU ENERGY CEO Tony Gilby explains how the thorough appraisal process has derisked implementing the development stage of the project which can now begin. The issuing of the licence will pioneer a new and exciting natural CBM gas industry in Botswana leading to much-needed investment and local employment. It also bodes well for another proposal still in the pipeline for a CBM-fuelled pilot power project.
KEFI Minerals’ (LON:KEFI) chairman Harry Adams tells Proactiveinvestors the company has received the news it has been waiting for: the sign-off of the company’s mining licence for its flagship Tulu Kapi gold project in Ethiopia. This means KEFI can now develop the mine, which is slated to produce 86,000 ounces of gold a year. Development of the mining sector is a major priority for the Ethiopian government, Adams said, as indicated by the intense media interest in the story in Ethiopia. Adams explains that KEFI has significantly reduced the capital required to develop the mine to make it more viable in the low gold price environment. The company expect to “lock down who’s providing the project finance” in the third quarter of this year.

It is relief for mining cabinet secretary Najib Balala tonight after the high court made a ruling in favour of his move to cancel a license issued to mining firm Cortec Limited. The high court in its ruling delivered by Justice Onesmus Mutungi, stated the firm acquired the Licence without following the right. The verdict puts to rest a spirited push and pull between Cortec and Balala. This now paves the way for interested mining firms to re-apply for prospecting licenses to prospect for niobium at Kenya’s coastal town of Kwale. Avrupa Minerals’ chief executive Paul Kuhn and director Mark Brown update investors at Mines and Money 2017 in London. Kuhn tells Proactive that drilling at the Alvito iron oxide-copper-gold licence in Portugal has “gone really well” so far and is in good shape for further drilling in the new year. “We started off with five or six drill targets on the licence and now we probably have 12 or 15, so we’re looking good for drilling in the spring” Avrupa is a prospect generator that looks to take early-stage projects, build them up and then joint venture them off to mining partners. Most of its focus is in Portugal where it has three licences in the pyrite belt and one licence in the iron oxide-copper-gold belt.
